The Civic Forum

Civic Forum

The Civic Forum was created on November 19th, 1989.

The Civic Forum was created in response to the rumored death of Martin Smid on November 17th. Many of the Charter members worked together and joined the Forum, known as the "Obcanske Forum" in Czech.

These Charter members continued their work from 1977 through the Forum, holding public meetings where people could ask questions and participate in the revolution. This was actually the first time Havel appeared in public as the leader of the Velvet Revolution. Many people took note of him and thought him to be too "sweet-tempered" to be such a strong leader.

Havel planned out the revolution however, and can be seen on the right in this image.
